Bruce Pardoe ~ 5th Element Mindfulness - The Direct Experience of Unity

Exploring our bodily sensations as the four elements of earth (weight), water (wetness), fire (temperature) and air (movement physically and energetically), gives a practitioner direct, unmediated access to the experience of being embodied. But there is a fifth element that is less commonly taught - space or ether. We are spatial beings in a spatial world. We are in relation to space in every moment of our lives. We have to know the position of our bodies in space to stay alive. So we directly feel and sense openness, nearness, farness, proprioception and so on. By adding this 5th element to our mindfulness we open up a world inside and outside of what we take to be our bodies. As we feel inside and outside, we experience the truth that they are not separated. This leads to the clear experience of unity and brings all of the awakened qualities of space which parallel the nature of mind into our direct, everyday lives. We will explore this together experientially this Monday.

Bio: Bruce Pardoe is a member of Mountain Stream’s Teacher Council. His personal healing journey with complex trauma led him to develop the radically gentle Heart Fluency method for engaging emotional wounds and afflictive patterns as portals to our essential well-being and happiness. Heart Fluency combines neuroscience and the unconditional nourishment of a healing awareness in an uplifting, heart-centered approach.

For more than 40 years Bruce has been navigating and facilitating the path of inner healing. After spending over two years on silent retreat he became a meditation teacher in the Vipassana tradition of Buddhism. He has completed Spirit Rock’s Meditation Center’s 2 year Community Dharma Leader training and has studied extensively in Asia in the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and Advaita.
